(Apparently someone already done something like this, but I'll do this anyway) Good day (It's 5 am rn) fellow grandmasters of the Anime Taste Analysis (I'll call it ATA for now), I would like to share my observations of the Otaku Community after being here for over 1.5 year. The contents of this post might be common sense for some people, but this has to be COMMON sense. Evolution of the Anime Taste. Obviously, if you just got started getting into the culture, the only shows that you will see, is the mainstream/popular media, but their true colors will only show, after they starts. Here's some general examples: Normie/Normal Person - Sticks with popular/beloved media, mostly a very agreeable person Fake Edge - Likes NTR, shits on people for liking Vanilla, and spams JoJo memes, mostly annoying. Twitter Grandmaster - Doesn't know what's this creature is talking about. "Art is shit" Guy - Only watches newer shows, basically the newbie anime fan that didn't evolved their taste. Veteran Anime Viewer - Mostly chill people, and has disagreeable opinions sometimes. Anime Elitist - Someone who watched a sufficient amount of otaku media, likes anime more than everyone else. Ok now add a stereotype in threads b r u h. |

Interesting takes. Which category would you put yourself in? Id like to think i'm a veteran but i guess it would be more up to the people around me. I'm sure there might be more categories but it would obviously be tough to brand everyone under one as everyone has their own unique taste, but as a broad measure, this is a good start :) |

I got in invite to an elitist club once, and I'm still not sure why; like, were they saying that I'm an elitist because Evangelion was my number two and I used to dunk on harems at any given moment despite the ecchi that I like, or were they trying to "fix "my taste because of the ecchi that I like? Well, I'm live and let live these days thanks to @Imaishi calling me out on my bullshit, so, whatever. |

I guess I'm unique. I act like a veteran anime viewer though I'm not a veteran. I've been watching anime off and on for about 15 years and am way more concerned about worldbuilding than anything else. A poorly made world turns me off and I can't finish the series. I'm don't engage with memes or the broader otaku sub-culture all that much, I enjoy what I like to enjoy and anime happens to exist in the category of things I enjoy. I do have an interest in Japanese culture, and I'm currently trying to learn the language, but both of those things are unrelated to my interest in anime. |

No one says that kind of shit anymore (other than me), not that I am aware of (jk, ofc everyone actually said something like this), that kind of attitude can also be applied normie anime fans too (shoutout to the Indian guy who got mad at me for saying "Kaguya-sama is 1/10" in the MALcord) I'll say there is 2 general flavors of Anime Elitist, first, the people who don't give shit about people's taste, Example:Digibro and The Anime Man (yes, he's an elitist, according to my fellow anime grandmasters people), and second, the one you mentioned (there is definitely more complicated types of elitist out there, kind like the deres). |

This made me lol for real hahaha Anime elitists really look as tho they hate anime. They view every anime that doesn't introduce an entirely new concept (or even a freakin' genre) as trash and tend to believe that "anime is dying" and "they don't make good anime anymore". Also their average on MAL is below 5 or even below 4,50. |

"Here's some general examples" Than what we gonna do with the counterparts of those: Vanilla Normal who can get sick just by a glimpse on what the normies watch. True Edge Behind Fake Edge who can distinguish quality drama from tearjerker. Reddit Apprentice. "Art is subjective" who watches only what makes that person happy regardless the year of production and quality. Novice Anime Viewer Who Doesn't Care About Trends And Media Context who just goes by the general criteriums what is good animation, good editing, good music, good voice acting, good writing and good direction. Anime Connoisseur who prefers well made anime but doesn't think that this make him/her superior to the rest. |

I feel like how people view these differ from person to person. If I like all types of anime, does that make me elitist? Also, what does otaku media mean? Does that include television and variety like GameCenter CX and Gaki no Tsukai? And how about "Fake Edge"? I'd imagine they'd "ironically" enjoy NTR rather than truly enjoy it. Whatever. I'll participate, I'm probably asking about something not that important. Uhh, "All Anime"? I enjoy all type of anime from all genre and often find myself enjoying more anime than I dislike. I definitely cannot be a normie viewer because I have seen very little popular/mainstream anime (at least compared to a lot of others) and tend to watch stuff based on gut feeling. |

Anime Veteran/Trash Been watching anime since back when they had fansub wars and Crunchyroll was still a pirate site. Had years of burnout though when the moe wave hit hard at one point. But I’m also trash cus yes my tolerance level has gotten lower over the years, I’ll still give something a shot if it mildly interesting. Also you forgot one group and that’s “Japan Daisuki!” - found a love for all that is Japanese culture which may or may not leading them to try and study the language/go to Japan. Please note I’m also a part of this group... |

I'm a grizzled anime vet that survived the hell that was 90s english anime dubs. I have bore witness to a quarter century (25 years) of anime, seen the best of the best and the worst of the worst, and I see no point in stopping now despite drawing dangerously close to the big four zero. Don't you youngsters ever forget that it was 90s kids such as myself that cultivated the anime popularity boom in the west and made it possible for you to indulge yourselves in the ceaseless onslaught of largely lackluster (though numerous exceptions exist) seasonal anime that we've been getting for the past decade. You're welcome. :p |

If I go by your definitions then I am a veteran anime viewer... maybe... I guess. Though there are a lot much-discussed, memed or referred titles in this community that I have not watched and most likely never will (Evangelion, Gintama, Jojo, FMA and so on, almost two third of the most popular series ) and it is possible that that fact makes me not qualified for calling myself a "veteran". Not as if I would care much if that were the case. |

I watch what's popular or at least decently highly rated so I'm a normie. I don't care about making myself feel intellectual and unique and above others by sticking to niche stuff barely anyone has seen, something many people do for many other topics too. I'm not an analytical person so I rarely have hot takes about the quality of a show. On the off chance I do have a spicy opinion on something, I get ignored and nobody responds lol |
